This zine collects the entirety of Torchy Brown in "Dixie to Harlem", a comic by Zelda Jackson "Jackie" Ormes. This comic sees the lead, Torchy, making the leap from small-town Mississippi life on a farm to living it up in New York City as a singer/dancer.
Jackie Ormes was the first nationally-read African-American woman cartoonist and is also considered the first African-American woman cartoonist in general.
"Dixie to Harlem" ran in The Pittsburgh Courier from May 1, 1937 to April 30, 1938.
